ABOUT STEEL

CPM 3V

CPM 3-V is the steel for the use and abuse knives. It is tough and well known Crucible steel with a fair amount of chromium and the ability to hold a very fine edge, but slightly simpler in composition than S30 or S35-VN.

Between the corrosion resistance and toughness, CPM 3-V rarely disappoints and fits a wide range of categories for blades where a more expensive CPM may not be necessary.

Like all Crucible CPMs, the combination of powdered metallurgy and Crucible quality stand out in a performance steel that readily adapts to almost any situation.

CPM 154

CPM 154 stainless steel from Crucible: made by the particle metal process & is very clean. It works good & polishes great. It may be the best all around blade steel on the market today.

8670

8670 is a high carbon nickel steel. Incredibly tough with great edge retention.

CPM Magnacut

CPM MagnaCut is the result of a new approach to stainless tool steel design to eliminate chromium carbides from the microstructure. This led to a combination of properties which is better than previous stainless knife steels, and has similar toughness and edge retention to non-stainless steels like CPM-CruWear, CPM-4V, and Vanadis 4 Extra. The corrosion resistance was also excellent, which means that the hardness-corrosion resistance balance of MagnaCut is very impressive, with achievable hardness being 64+ Rc and corrosion resistance being even better than steels like S110V, S45VN, and M390.
